The Advent song “Veni Emmanuel” (O come, Emmanuel) dates back to the 14th century. It expresses the anticipation of all Christians for the Birth of Jesus Christ. Over time there have been many different lyrics and translations of this song. The American composer James L. Hosay made it a personal mission to properly arrange the joyful “Veni Emmanuel” for wind band. He considered the song’s medieval origins and at the same time gave the music his own personal touch. The melody is first presented as psalmody-like solo and then progresses in Gregorian style before unfolding its magnificence in a bright and splendid tutti to express the joy of Christmas grandeur.
The great popularity of VENI EMMANUEL has now also led to an edition for large brass ensemble.
