The fantasy word KALEIDOLLAGE is made up of the terms KALEIDOSKOP (kaleidoscope) and COLLAGE. As in a collage, different musical ideas are combined here on a common thematic basis. The focus is on the famous carol »In Dulci Jubilo«. It inspired Kraas while he was improvising on the piano, when he was putting together the first musical material for the new piece, which he later put into the form of a through-composed scherzo. “In Dulci Jubilo” thus forms the basis of the ingeniously composed five variations, which, like the sparkling, colorful patterns in the kaleidoscope, merge into one another and provide surprises for the viewer or listener. “Ear candy” - not only at Christmas time.
