Born in Sonthofen (Allgäu), Wolfgang Guggenberger received several awards at a young age, including the 1st federal prize and the European prize at “Jugend musiziert” (young people make music) competition. In 1978, he distinguished himself as a prizewinner and scholarship holder at the renowned German Music Competition. He supplemented his studies in Munich with Rolf Quinque and Trossingen with Professor Horst-Dieter Bolz. This was followed by a two-year, artistically formative intensive course in Chicago with Prof. Vincent Cichowicz, Adolph Herseth and Arnold Jacobs. There have been orchestral engagements with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Collegium Stuttgart and as the solo trumpet player with the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1986 to 2005, Wolfgang Guggenberger taught at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. In 2005, he was appointed professor at the University of Music in Trossingen. He has also been a visiting professor at the Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo since 2018. In addition to numerous recordings, Wolfgang Guggenberger has released three CDs. In 2004, his method book for 1 or 2 trumpets "BASICS PLUS" (RUNDEL Music Publications) was published, which today is part of the standard repertoire of brass pedagogy.
