In an entertaining musical language “Futuro 2000” depicts the kind of both visionary and sobering thoughts that haunt a composer’s mind shortly before the advent of the new millenium. These ideas mostly refer to developments, which, in the composer’s thinking, will probably occur more rapidly than we are able imagine today.
Part 1 (New Horizons)
New horizons will open to mankind. Man will learn how to overcome gravitation. New means of communications and transport will cross the air space. Neither will they require any kind of fuel nor will they cause environmental damage any longer.
Part 2 (Delta Plane)
In contrast to that there is a new dimension of personal romantic experiences will emerge: delta planes will conquer the Alps – High above a world which has become very small when looking down - and you are alone – it is only you and your delta plane.
Part 3 (Space Talk)
During the first year of the new millenium already, there will be numerous “important” conferences again. Conferences which are characterized by endless debates yielding no substantial results. In terms of music, the sequential technique employed in this part alludes to this fact: it is the same over and again, only one tone higher or one tone lower.
Part 4 (Sky Rocket)
The possibilities available for everybody’s leisure time will be beyond imagination. Flying to other planets to spend one’s vacations there will be considered to be completely normal. To underline this, the composer depicts the lift-off of a “vacation rocket” in an expressive manner.
It goes without saying that the composer also reflects on the future development of music: Rhythmical structures will become more difficult, but cadencing will pick up in reputation again. Harmonies will reveal more tranquillity, and traditional composition techniques will be adopted again, which, however, are determined by new elements bringing about a change in function.
BASIC SOUND
From S to XXL – Music for any band instrumentation
"Basic Sound" is a series by RUNDEL Music Publications offering an attractive and diversified repertoire to bands at grade 2 or 3 level, of sizes S to XXL. "Basic Sound" allows for performances by groups with limited instrumentation. Minimun requirements are clearly bracketed in the score.
The smallest size (S) of "Basic Sound" is based on the following instruments:
one (1) flute, two (2) clarinets, one (1) alto-saxophone, two (2) trumpets, one (1) trombone, one (1) baritone/euphonium, one (1) tuba and percussion.
Each edition also includes a full set of parts (XXL). That way the conductor can adjust the pieces of the "Basic Sound" series to his band's instrumentation.
