The piece is structured around three movements with an acceptable level of difficulty. The first movement develops along the lines of a typical march and carries many of its distinctive characteristics. A brief opening is followed by two solemn celebratory passages, a longer and cantabile trio and then a closing coda that takes up some of the initial strains. The central movement creates a warm rural mood with simple peaceful themes and harmonies. The suite closes with the whirling unexpected arrival of an Italian tarantella.
