The rural suite by Hans Blank paints musical pictures of life in and around the old castle ("Das alte Schloss"):
1. Am frühen Morgen (Early Morning)
The sound of horns announce the beginning of a new day. Trumpet call and solo flute symbolize the people's bustling
2. Im Schlossgarten (The Castle Garden)
The meadows that surround the castle and the gnarly fruit trees invite the children to play. The boys and girls happily dance in gentle waltz tempo.
3. Musikanten im Schlosshof (Musicians in the Courtyard)
The composer recalls the touring minstrels, offering instruments in exchange or for sale and performing in the courtyard.
4. Spuk im Schloss (Spook in the Castle)
Can you imagine a castle without a ghost? And if necessary the cocky boys have to compensate: They meet for a howling and stamping goblin dance and leave with a eery laugh.
5. Das alte Schloss im neuen Glanz (The old Castle in new Splendor)
The old castle presents itself with a shiny facade. Jauntily we walk over the noble grounds. The solo trumpet reminds us of former times and with motifs of the foregoing movements the suite ends in a brisk allegro.
