Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) came from a traditional family of musicians. As the fifth of seven children of the organist, music teacher and composer Michele Puccini, he was to become a church musician. Giacomo Puccini received his first musical education in his hometown of Lucca. At the age of 14 he played the church organ. After an "Aida" performance in 1876, he decided to become an opera composer.
The opera "Turandot" was Puccini's last composition; unfortunately, he was unable to complete it due to progressive illness. The premiere of this opera by the world-famous conductor Arturo Toscanini took place after Puccini's death in 1926. The aria "Nessun Dorma" (Let no one sleep!) from the third act of the opera "Turandot" is one of the best-known and most successful opera arias. These arias became known to a wide audience primarily through the interpretation of Luciano Pavarotti at various major sporting events.
