“Fiskinatura” was commissioned by the Fischen im Allgäu Concert Band for the 1150th anniversary of the village Fischen. It is dedicated to the band’s conductor, Prof. Maximilian Maria Jannetti. To title his four-movement suite composer Thiemo Kraas selected a newly coined word combining “Fiskina”, the ancient name of the village, and “Natura”. Each movement is inspired by the ambiguity of the word “nature”, not requiring a strictly programmatic interpretation but rather offering impressions.
I. Intrada Jubilate
The first movement is a festive opening, symbolizing the bonds of people to their roots: trust, understanding and fellowship are three central ideas of this movement.
II. Scherzo Danzante
The power of nature is the topic of the second movement, shown by a musical picture of the Breitachklamm Gorge near Fischen. Stone, water, ice and snow form a fascinating natural phenomenon.
III. Intermezzo Pastorale
As the title implies, this movement pays homage to the beautiful Allgäu scenery.
IV. Finale
Human nature – different characters and personalities – and the nature of the countryside in all its facets create the unique feature of a place. All of these aspects form a composite of different impressions and experiences – the “spice” that makes a special place so special…
