The maritime rhapsody The Seafarer (1940) is based on some well known Irish and Scottish traditional music. As a resident on the Isle of Man, where he moved at very young age, Haydn Wood has grown up with the sea and the sea shanties. The work has a traditional form, a true rhapsody and has been performed hundreds of times throughout Europe, similar as Wood’s work Manin Ween. The new full score and revised instrumentation of The Seafarer, have adapted the work to present day wind band settings.
