»Rondo for Band« by the Moravian composer Pavel Stanek is a fresh, colorful composition of many contrasts.
The first part presents the first main theme and is characterised by the contrast of a broad melody and heavy interjections. The flowing 3/4 rhythm is alienated by deferred accents and sporadic bars in 4/4. This first part is getting more and more dramatic before it suddenly turns to a softer tune.
A short clarinet solo leads to the second part. The woodwinds present the second main theme which slightly involves all the other instruments before it fades again.
What follows is a sudden change back to the energy of the first part. Then there is a very festive maestoso part in 3/2 before "Rondo for Band" ends with the heavy interjections.
