Hermann Dostal wurde am 6. April 1874 in Strelitz im nördlichen Mähren geboren. Er wuchs in musikalischer Umgebung auf und erhielt eine fundierte Ausbildung an den Konservatorien von Prag (Harfe, Violine) und später in Wien.
