"Santiano" is a North German band that created a new sound from traditional folk and shanty songs, combined with a mixture of schlager, folk and rock. The band's name origins in the same-named shanty. Since 2011, the five musicians perform under their name "Santiano", they are very successful and at least since their appearance at the prelimary decision of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014, they are well know with a broad audience. The unique, buff sound with unmistakable choruses and the almost piratical image helped the band to win a big fanbase.
