Gloria Gaynor, geboren 1947 in Newark, New Jersey, hatte vor allem zwei große Hits: "I Will Surive" im Jahre 1979 war dabei ihr wohl größter Erfolg. Aber auch mit "I Am What I Am" stürmte sie 1984 in die UK-Charts. Ihren Durchbruch hatte Gloria Gaynor zehn Jahre zuvor mit "Never Can Say Goodbye". Einem Song, der ursprünglich von den Jackson 5 gesungen wurde.
