Info

Georg Freundorfer was a German zither player and composer, but he first learned the profession of brewing beer. He began his musical career as a teenager with performances as a zither soloist. Freundorfer celebrated his first successes with the pianist Bernhard Derksen, with whom he initially performed as a duo and later with a complete salon orchestra. In 1912 Freundorfer moved to Berlin. Here he became one of the most popular entertainers of the 1920s and 1930s with compositions such as "The Way to the Heart" and "On the Beautiful Green Isar" as well as numerous radio concerts. Georg Freundorfer dedicated the march "Greetings to Obersalzberg" to Obersalzberg during the Nazi era. Today the march is known as “Greetings to Upper Bavaria”. In the winter of 1940, Freundorfer fell on an icy staircase after a concert and died from his serious injuries a short time later. He was buried in an urn grave in the Bamberg cemetery.
