The SEBASTIAN CHORALE consists of 3 sections in all:
Introduction, Prelude and Chorale
The Introduction consists of a mere 2 bars. These reveal the motif for the following Prelude, in which the motif is carried on in different instrumental groups before finishing in a brief ensemble tutti. The Chorale brings a change of tempo and allows the melody to flow “quasi alla breve”. After a recapitulation the Chorale ends in a slow tempo with a so-called “Amen cadence” (plagal cadence IV-I).
The SEBASTIAN CHORALE has consciously been written in a very simple fashion and each part is limited to a range of five tones, i.e. the tonal range is always within a fifth. This composition therefore offers ideal possibilities to train the sound of a young ensemble from the very beginning.
