Overture for Winds and Percussion
"Monumentum", an overture for winds and percussion by austrian composer Martin Scharnagl begins with a sublime, majestic theme, which is framed by a walking ostinato accompanying rhythm. This cinematic introduction is followed by an elegant interlude that leads to a solemn chorale. In contrast to this, a dance-like “Allegro” influenced by time changes appears. Finally, the recapitulation comes in the style of a pop ballad, which returns the beginning themes in bright major. A short, lively coda ends the work.

"Monumentum" is an exciting, entertaining overture, suitable for concert and competition alike. With a great melodic flair and colorful harmony, the young Austrian composer portrays splendid monuments and pompous buildings in the mind's eye and thus creates music that will surely leave a lasting impression on the audience.
