Das Land der Pharaonen Overture - Ouvertüre
Chords of fifths and the gong open the "Land of the Pharaohs" in an impressive way. A soft and mysterious theme follows the introduction. Twelve measures later chords of fifths are added and the mysterious theme changes its nature. It is now played with great pomp while the percussion stands out thus symbolizing the glory of ancient Egypt. A new motive appears in the central section – lonely and abandoned. A lonely caravan crosses the desert. Tambourines and muted trumpets enhance the impression of solitude in the desert. The last section is a short repetition of the first part ending in a stately coda that symbolizes the splendor of the pyramids and "The Land of the Pharaohs".
