Hymn for Wind Band
Hymne für Blasorchester

The hymn “A Sign for Freedom“ is a musical plea for peace and freedom by young Austrian composer Thomas Asanger. The strong German and Austrian sentiment to support refugees from various conflict areas is a great sign of tolerance and solidarity – especially in a time of increased racism. “A Sign for Freedom” is a call for putting similarities above differences and for overcoming (national) borders.

Thomas Asanger’s composition allows for dual ensemble performance with two or more bands – or with traditional concert band instrumentation. It lives up to its message to unite people of different national, cultural and religious origins. “A Sign for Freedom” is dedicated to Stadtmusik Maissau (Austria) and Musikverein Warthausen (Germany) and was premiered at a joint anniversary concert on November 7, 2015.
