Info

Richard Eilenberg was born on January 13, 1848 in Merseburg. He studied both piano and composition and wrote his first work, a concert overture, at the age of 18. As a volunteer he took part in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. From 1873 he worked as a music director and conductor in Stettin and in 1889 he settled in Berlin as a freelance composer. Richard Eilenberg primarily composed marches and dances for orchestras, harmony and military music. His salon and light music became best known. These include, above all, the pieces “Petersburg Sleigh Ride” (with text “It's beautiful in winter”) and “The Mill in the Black Forest”.
