Lieutenant Colonel SAWANO Nobuyuki began his military career in 1992 as a Bass Trombone player in JGSDF Central Band.
In 1995, he was promoted to an officer. His assignments as a band officer included commander of 1st Combined Brigade Band (Currently 15th Band, Okinawa), Northern Army Band (Sapporo) and Chief of the Planning Division and the Executive Officer of the Central Band. Concurrently, he was enrolled at Tokyo University of the Arts as an auditor. As conductor, he led the band for Special Guard of Honor Ceremonies to welcome state guests and official visitors at the State Guest House and the Imperial Palace. LTC SAWANO was appointed as Chief of the Performance Division of the Central Band in March 2020.
He studied trombone under the tutelage of MAEDA Tamostu, INOUE Junpei, AKIYAMA Koichi, chamber music under TADO Ikumistu and conducting under SAKITA Syunji.
LTC SAWANO is a member of the Japanese Band Directors Association and World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles.
