Rhapsody for Concert Band
“Irish Castle“ sounds like music of Irish mythology. The music actually stands alone, but you can also imagine the following scenario while listening to or playing the piece:
On the tower of an old Irish castle there stands the lord with his two sons, looking over his territory: green meadows, soft hills and small villages reach to the horizon. Yet, the peaceful idyll is in danger – a battle arises. Both sons go to war to defend their home. They succeed but like in all wars there is no real winner. One of the brothers loses his life on the battlefield and the other one returns alone to his father at the castle. But still: The battle has been won and the castle has been saved. The people cheer and celebrate the peace with joyful dances.

Markus Götz created this dramatic composition for concert band. Besides typically Irish melodies and rhythms, “Irish Castle” also bears the distinctive hallmarks of the composer.
