Pod jednou strechou Polka
Karel Valdauf was born on October 25, 1913 in Trhové Sviny in southern Bohemia. He discovered his love for music at a young age and began playing the violin at the age of ten. However, an instrument alone was not enough for him. At the age of thirteen he played in his grandfather's band, sometimes on the flute, sometimes on the snare drum. If necessary, he also switched to the tenor horn, clarinet, saxophone, guitar or harmonica. After graduating from military music school and serving as a musician for a few years in the military, he formed a small band and toured the country with a theater company. In 1948 he finally founded his "Karel Valdauf Orchestra" and quickly made a name for himself with this formation in the folk music scene. Between 1950 and 1954 he deepened his musical knowledge by studying composition at the Prague Conservatory. Karel Valdauf composed more than 150 titles and became one of the most famous composers and musicians of his time in Czechoslovakia.
