Gospel Rock
CHRISTMAS SPIRITUAL is a modern gospel rock selection. The opening tune "Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow" is an original gospel tune as it is sung by large gospel choirs in the United States. Luigi di Ghisallo adapted the original texture to the wind instruments remaining true to the original style, and he also did not neglect the swinging effects innate in this kind of music. The second song, “Go, Tell It on the Mountain” is another well-known tune. In it the verse may be played by the band, while the chorus may be sung in enthusiastic rhythm. The third song "Joy to the World" is no spiritual to be true. It was taken from Handel’s “The Messiah”. The tune, however, is frequently presented in churches by gospel choirs. It is performed there in swinging versions and therefore produces a grandiose finale for our piece. CHRSTIMAS SPIRITUAL may be effectively staged together with a children’s or youth choir.
