Fanfares have always been used as signal music, especially in festive, ceremonial contexts. With his piece FANFARE FOR 8, Stephen Melillo succeeds in creating a thrilling „Fanfare 2.0“ that sounds modern. It nevertheless differs from the traditional characteristics of this instrumental form, which has always demanded attention. The eight trumpets play in a double choir and can - for example in a church - be effectively positioned in different places. In the lyrical middle section, the 1st and 2nd trumpet elegantly take on a solo part, only to powerfully and heroically pick up speed and finish in a brilliant fortissimo chord.
