LTC Takahiro Higuchi was appointed Commander of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Middle Army Band in December 2014 and currently serves as the 19th Commander and Principal Conductor for the Middle Army Band. LTC Higuchi studied at the Musashino Academia Musicae where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance. Upon graduation from the Musashino Academia Musicae, Takahiro Higuchi began his military career. In 1985, he was assigned as an officer with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band stationed in Tokyo.  After successful completion of his assignment with the Central Band he was assigned to the 1st Combined Brigade Band (now, the 15th Brigade Band) in Okinawa, and later assigned to the 12th Division Band in Gunma and then the Northern Army Band in Sapporo. In 1995, he began auditing studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
LTC Takahiro studied conducting under the tutelage of many great conductors such as Kazue Kamiya, Kenichiro Kobayashi, Kurt Redel, Yuji Yuasa, Hiroyuki Iwaki and Yutaka Sado. LTC Higuchi is an active member of the Japan Band Directors Association and has participated in the Pacific Music Festival Educational Seminars in Sapporo, and at the Dinu Niculescu International Conducting Competition in Romania.
