Sons of the Brave is, and there is no doubt about it, one of the most stirring British marches. It was originally dedicated to the Duke of York’s Military School which Bidgood had attended as a young boy for some time and was eventually premiered by the combined British bands in Pretoria during the South African War (1899-1902).
