The story of Inspector Javert relentlessly chasing prison escapee Jean Valjean was capured in numermous movies before Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil created this fantastic musical. Although it is common to premier such musicals in New York or London, "Les Misérables" was first performed in Paris, on September 22, 1980.
