Info

Johann Sebastian Bach is considered to be one of the most ingenious composers of all time. His incomparably deep music made him immortal. His sacred works are greatly valued, such as the overwhelming Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248). The plain and festive choral “Vom Himmel hoch” is taken from the second cantata of the Oratorio. From this choral Albert Loritz created an independent piece for wind band. In the beginning we hear two stanzas from the choral with Bach-typical harmonics – first only in the brass instruments, then in a bright tutti sound. In the following fugue the melody receives clever contrapuntal modifications. This fugue is a choral prelude for organ from the “Kirnberger Chorales” (BWV 700). In contrast to the first part of the piece, it is less choric but rather complex. This part demands precise attention to detailed dynamic indications to guarantee maximum clarity and perception of the complex fugue.
