Pavel Josef Vejvanovský (1640-1693) is an exponent of the Czech Baroque music. After studies at the Jesuit Latin school in Olomouc (1656-1660), he became a member of the orchestra of the Olomouc bishop Karl Lichtenstein-Castelcorn in Kromeríz in 1664 and stayed until his death, considered a distinguished citizen of the town. In 1670, he has been appointed as "Kapellmeister", boasting the honorary title of field trumpeter (tubicen campestris), and at the same time director of the choir at St. Maurice's Church. He was a prolific composer who kept in touch with the musical world, and was familiar with Italian and Viennese music. He wrote over 100 sacred compositions (among them 10 masses), as well as many sonatas and Baroque suites (balletti), in which he liked to use the wind instruments. He was one of the first composers to used the French horn and clarinos (high trumpets). His fresh melodies with inspiration by folk music and his brillant compositional technique stemming from Venetian and Viennese Baroque music are also typical for the Serenada for two trumpets, originally composed for clarinos.
