Info

Franz Sommer (1852-1908) who hailed from Moravia was musically educated in Prague, where he privately studied at the conservatory for some time. During his 29 years as a military bandmaster, he served with six different regiments. He stood up for social matters of his colleagues and worked on the board of administration for the military bandmaster retirement fund. As a composer he was especially active in the field of the waltz and the march with more than 60 marches to his credit. His rousing “Ramberg March” is a typical example of the old Austrian dedicatory march. It was written for General of the Infantry Hermann Baronet von Ramberg when he was Corps Commander and Commanding General of the XIII Corps in Zagreb and at the same time Inhaber of the Hungarian (Croatian) Infantry Regiment No. 96 from 1883 until 1889.

This march is also know with the title "Graf-Lamberg-Marsch".
