Around 1830 the Bohemian polka came into fashion as a popular dance. It spread all over Europe almost like an epidemic and finally not only conquered the dance halls, but was also adopted by serious music. Its regional native types have been uninterruptedly popular in Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia.
