Orchestre d'Harmonie
Old English Tunes and Airs
Suite aus Werken des 18. Jahrhunderts
Suite of works from the 18th Century
Info
There are many beautiful compositions in old English music that have never reached a deserved level of awareness. This suite of “Old English Tunes and Airs” contains unknown pieces of less famous composers that are in no way inferior to other popular tunes, airs and voluntaries. Stylistically the six pieces, originally written for organ, are from the transition between the Baroque and classic periods. Arranging these for wind band works well as both organ and wind instruments produce sound using air; especially in English organ music the imitation of solo wind instruments was very common. Albert Loritz orchestrated this suite to allow for performance by smaller ensembles. Minimum instrumentation includes a complete brass section and five woodwinds, namely flute, 1st clarinet, 2nd clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone.
Includes:
1. Prelude (John Worgan)
2. Allegro (Thomas Thorley)
3. Trumpet Voluntary (Henry Heron)
4. Largo (John Travers)
5. Air (Samuel Wesley)
6. Trumpet Finale (William Goodwin)
