Info

Josef Prichystal was born 3rd March 1874 in Biskupice (Moravia). His father noticed his musical talent and sent him to Brno, where he became a pupil of Leos Janacek, who was already famous at that time. Prichystal studied composition, double bass and trombone and afterwards moved to Vienna where he was a member of the Johann Strauss orchestra, conducted by Eduard Strauss. In 1892 Prychistal joined the services and served in several regimental bands and met Franz Lehar in 1906 in Budapest, who was a friend for many years, and so was Julius Fucik. 1914, when the war started, Prichystal obtained Hungarian cizitenship and changed his name to Pecsi-Prichystal. After the breakdown of monarchy he was bandmaster of the Hungarian National Army and leader of the Royal Hungarian Infantry Regiment Band "König Mathias" No. 5 in Sopron until 1926. Josef Pecsi died 1958 in Budapest. His works for band are still popular today, e.g. "Petöfi" „Die Musik kommt“, „6er Defiliermarsch“, „Unter der Siegesflagge“, „Pandur“, „Salus Hungaria“ and „Goldenes Wien".
