Info

Tubist Jörg Wachsmuth can today definitely be regarded as one of the world’s leading virtuosi on his instrument. Born in 1966 in Frankenhausen, Thuringia, he comes from a prominent family of musicians. His father was a trumpeter, while his grandfather and great-grandfather both played the tuba.
After studying at the “Hanns Eisler” College of Music in Berlin from 1983 to 1987 he joined the Potsdam Police Band as a tubist and then the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic in 1990. In 2000 he assumed the position of solo tuba in the world-renowned Dresden Philharmonic. He also plays in a smaller ensemble, the well-known Melton Tuba Quartet. Today Jörg Wachsmuth is internationally in demand as a soloist and orchestral tuba player. Concert tours have taken him to the USA, France, Austria, Russia, Argentina, Brazil and Korea among other places. At a relatively early stage, Wachsmuth began to develop a pedagogical style parallel to and as successful as his many musical commitments. Since 1993 he has been an instructor with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Youth Wind Ensemble and since 2002 he has been teaching at the “Carl Maria von Weber” College of Music in Dresden. In 2006 Jörg Wachsmuth was named chamber musician and in 2009 he was made a professor.
Today he teaches internationally, conducts master classes and is much in demand as a competition jurist.
