Info

Hans Blank was born on August 10th, 1919 in Wasseralfingen.

He had his first music lessons in Bamberg at the age of ten. At 14, he began private lessons with Musikdirektor Otto Kuefer in Ulm, studying violin, trumpet and harmonic theory. In 1939 he joined the State Labor Service Band on trumpet and a year later, after auditioning with professor Felix Husadel, he was a member of the air force band in Neubiberg and Schwäbisch Hall.
After the war, Blank founded his own dance band and taught young musicians of the "Bergkapelle der Schwäbischen Hüttenwerke Wasseralfingen" (SHW). In 1950 he became Stadtkapellmeister in Neresheim and three years later took leadership of the Stadtkapelle Lauchheim. In 1961 he became conductor of the SHW-Bergkapelle and in 1971 he was appointed Musikdirektor.
His "Concertino für Solotrompete und Blasorchester" won 2nd prize in the Baden-Wuerttemberg band association's composition contest in 1980, and his "Concerto grosso für Saxophonquartett und Blasorchester" was awarded 1st prize in 1985.

Hans Blank died on December 6, 2006 in Aalen. His works are still performed across Europe and in the United States of America.
