In 1880, Emmanuel Chabrier composed "Picturesque pieces for piano" (Pièces pittoresques), a set of ten pieces that were regarded as exceptionally wonderful.
Between 1881 and 1888 Chabrier orchestrated four parts of the set, "Idylle", "Danse villageoise", "Sous-bois" and "Scherzo-valse" to form his "Suite Pastorale". The suite was first performed on November 4, 1888 by the Association artistique d’Angers, conducted by Chabrier himself.
Based on this wonderful music, Yuusako Yoshida created the "Pastoral Suite" for wind band as a transparent and meticulous transcription.
