Zdenek Lukaš (1928-2007) was one of the most important Czech composers of the second half of the 20th century. After several years of educational work he was employed at broadcast in Pilsen from 1953 to 1964.
He got interested in modern composing and experimented in an electroacoustic studio. With time his personal, unique compositional style evolved; it is a synthesis of traditional forms and modern technique.
His oeuvre includes more than 250 compositions, including 6 symphonies, 2 operas, instrumental concertos, chamber music and many vocal works.
In the field of symphonic band music Zdenek Lukaš is particularly famous for his "Sinfonia Brevis". This composition was compulsory piece for the First Division at the World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade in 1997.
