“Oratorio de Noël op. 12” (Christmas Oratorio) is an early work of Camille Saint-Saëns, the notable French Romantic master, and is one of his few church music pieces. The original chamber music work consists of ten movements of about 30 minutes’ duration. Albert Loritz chose four movements and carefully arranged Saint-Saëns‘ enchantingly romantic music for wind band. The appealing, clear sound of the original wonderfully unfolds within the multifarious wind band tone colors. The four movements can also be performed separately, working especially well with the simple and yet impressive finale.
