Info

Václav Bláha was born 4. May 1901 in the very small village Křečov with about 20 inhabitants, located about 50 km north from Pilsen.
His parents owned a guesthouse, which was very prosperous as the village was conveniently-located. Václav was the second of four children. The parents were musically talented and passed this talent and passion to their children. Václav and his brother Rudolf learned first the violin and later trumpet and trombone. They often performed with their parents in the guesthouse, which was well received by the guests.

Václav Bláha was carpenter by profession. In musical regard he was autodidact, both concerning learning instruments and composing. His musical abilitites were very much influenced by his military service and his performances in Prague, where he performed in differend cafés, cinemas and theatres. Some years after the First World War R.A. Dvorský, who was leader of a well-known orchestra in Prague, asked Bláha if he would replace Karel Vacek, who just had left the group. Bláha became second trumpeter of the Dvorský orchestra and the most important period of his life and his constructiveness began. Until 1948 most of his pieces were released in print and as recordings in Dvorský's publishing company.
As composter Bláha mostly wrote folk music and he did the lyrics as well. As musician he played almost everything appearing, especially contemporary music. His abilites as solo trumpeter were recorded in several films. His polkas became particularly famous, but also his tangos and mazurkas. Later he wrote some songs for children.

Václav Bláha died during a visit near Příbram 22. March 1959.
