Ensemble Time (Die Musizierstunde) MZ 291
(8 Trumpets - 2 Quartets in Double Choir of 8 Parts)
Initially it may seem rather mad to compose a piece for 8 trumpets, but let's face it – how many wind ensembles nowadays don't have huge trumpet sections? And the number of young trumpet players at music schools is steadily increasing as well. In writing "Trompetissimo" I have created a festive work for 8 trumpets which would be ideal as an introduction to a concert. The individual parts are of differing degrees of difficulty so that the teacher can bring musicians of various levels of ability together.
The arrangement with two choirs offers attractive performance possibilities. "Choir 1", for example, can be positioned on the stage while "Choir 2" plays from a balcony or gallery. Even if this is not possible, the conductor should endeavour to place the two choirs at a certain distance from each other.
