Thomas Asanger (* 1988 in Linz) studied German philology at the University of Vienna, bassoon, music pedagogy with a major in choral management (Magister artium with distinction) and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna as well as wind orchestra management at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.
For his compositional work he received numerous awards and prizes for compositions, including a talent grant from the Federal Ministry of Education, Art and Culture (2007). Many of his compositions have been nominated as obligatory pieces at various orchestral competitions both in Germany, Switzerland and abroad). His compositions are performed globally, including at the renowned Midwest Clinic in Chicago (USA).
As a choir director, he has been responsible for rehearsals at the renowned “Theater an der Wien” (Theatre at the Wien River) in the series “Jugend an der Wien” (Youth at the Wien River) (e.g. Béatrice et Bénédict, Le Contes d'Hoffmann) as well as the “Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich” (Sound Artist Orchestra of Lower Austria) under Yutaka Sado (Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven) in the series “Seid umschlungen, Millionen” (Be embraced, ye millions).
Since 2015 he has been teaching the subject “Ensemble Management Wind Orchestra” at the “OÖ Landesmusikschulwerk“ (Upper Austrian National Music School).
From 2013 to 2014 he was an associate lecturer at the Institute for Analysis, Theory and History of Music at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna.
Since 2016 he has been working as a research assistant at the same faculty.
