The Johan Willem Friso Military Band is the oldest of the four professional brass bands in the Dutch armed forces. The band consists of woodwind, brass and percussion sections with a contrabass. The repertoire extends from military marches to contemporary symphonic music for wind and percussion instruments and light music. Classical arrangements of symphonic music are also played. The band provides the musical accompaniment at military events and ceremonial occasions within and outside the armed forces. They also give concerts, tattoos and shows at home and abroad. In addition, smaller ensembles can also be formed from the band, such as a Big Band, the Lyrique Trio, the Noord-Nederlands Clarinet Quartet, the Cambini Quintet and a brass ensemble. The band consists of fourty-four regular musicians who have had music academy or similar training. There is also a staff which includes the commander, the conductor, the librarian/drum major, a road manager and an office manager.
