Sumus Futuro - BAR0123000 | Music

"Sumus Futuro" was commissioned by the Campus R. Irmo Middle School Honor Band, David C. Woodard and Kenneth D. Turner, conductors, in honor of the administration of this outstanding school and its keen sensitivity to the place and teaching of the arts in the development of young people. "Sumus Futuro" is the school's motto and means literally "We are the future". The piece was first performed at the Southern Music Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on December 4th, 1997, with the IMS Concert Band under the composer's direction.

The music is based on the old hymn tune "Ellacombe" (I Sing the Mighty Power of God), set forth in the form of a festival intrada for winds.
