The so-called Steigerlied with its well-known line of text "Glück auf, Glück auf, der Steiger comes" has a truly ancient tradition in Germany. Its age cannot be determined exactly, but written sources can be traced back to 1531. As a march, the song is the top 'compulsory piece' of all miners' wind orchestras, and in traditional German mining regions the song is considered to be a 'secret national anthem'. (Incidentally, the sung “Steiger” is the superior of the simple miners.) Although coal mining in Germany has now become a thing of the past, the Steiger song will certainly continue to hold its place in our culture. Werner Horber has therefore presented a contemporary arrangement for modern wind orchestra. We say: "Good luck!"
