During his holiday in the Dominican Republic, Markus Götz was fascinated by the local music with its lightness and vitality. He was so inspired that he composed PUNTA CANA, a joyful piece in Latin American style.
PUNTA CANA is perfect for training a sense of rhythm. The alla breve (cut time), rarely used in young band music, requires thinking in full phrases with an awareness of strong and weak beats. Precise articulation is very important in Latin rock, and it is very clearly notated. Staccato dots and tenuto dashes, varied note values and accents must be deliberately played to create a typical Latin American rhythm. At the same time the music should have a light, effortless character, a challenge particularly for bass instruments. Percussionists are also challenged in this piece, in particular the trap instruments (cowbell and bongos) being essential for the Latin Sound. For the typical groove it is necessary to keep up precision, intensity, and of course the joy of music-making throughout the piece.
Please enjoy PUNTA CANA!
