Jan Fadrhons inherited his musical talent from his father. At the age of six he learned to play the violin, later adding viola, double bass, trumpet, piano and cello. He studied French horn, composition, conducting and instrumentation at the Prague Conservatory. As a conductor and musician, he worked in various orchestras: Opera in the Prague Theater Na Vinohradech, the spa orchestra in Luhačovice, with the Czech Radio, etc. After 1945 he became bandmaster of the garrison music in Prague and later of the castle guard. At the end of his artistic career he worked as chief inspector of military bands in the Ministry of Defense in Prague. He made a significant contribution to the high level of Czech military bands and to the development of the instrumentation of compositions for wind orchestras. In honor of Jan Fadrhons, a festival for wind orchestras has been taking place in his birthplace since 1970.
