Born in 1951 in Thorn (The Netherlands), Jan Cober started its musical training in the bosom of the "Koninklijke Harmonie Thorn". He studied the clarinet and orchestral conducting at the Maastricht Conservatory of Music. Both studies he crowned with the "Prix d'Excellence". In 1972, he started his professional musical carrier as first clarinettist with the Orchestra of the Dutch Radio, and later as solo-clarinettist with the "Residentie Orchestra" in The Hague. Pursuing his studies in orchestral conducting, he participated in numerous conductor courses and conducted at many national and international festivals. Professor of music at the Conservatories in Tilburg and Maastricht, Jan Cober owes his fame to his exceptional performances when conducting various symphonic orchestras and wind orchestras at international festivals all over Europe, in Australia and in the United States. For the time being, Jan Cober conducts the famous Dutch wind orchestra "Koninklijke Harmonie Thorn", at the head of which he won several times the World Music Championship of Kerkrade (The Netherlands). He also guest-conducts the Municipal Wind Orchestra of Madrid (Spain) and the military orchestra "Schweitzer Armeespiel" in Switzerland. Since August 2002 he is principal conductor of the " Rundfunkblasorchester Leipzig " Germany.
