Info

One of the greatest works in music history is Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th symphony. It was the last symphony of the equally brilliant and difficult composer, outranking everything created in symphonic music so far: it lasts longer that one hour, requires an expanded orchestra, four solo vocalists and a large choir. The fourth movement of the symphony, in which Beethoven melodizes the Ode to Joy by Friedrich Schiller, is particularly popular. Its catchy melody and message that all people are brothers is world-famous and touches those of all races and cultures. Because of its bonding message "Ode to Joy" was designated the European Anthem. Alfred Bösendorfer created a compact version of "Ode to Joy" for concert band, suitable for various occasions.
