Info

The island of Lanzarote is located north-easternmost of the Canary Isles. Its black volcanic mountains are typical of the entire island. On account of its closeness to Africa and the Sahara Desert, an especial aridity is predominating. The volcanism becomes noticeable by high ground temperatures in the “Mountains of Fire” (“Montañas del Fuego”). The last major volcanic eruption took place in 1824. Today the island of Lanzarote is best known as a resort island. Its bizarre volcanic landscape inspired Markus Götz during a stay there to write his new composition “Montañas del Fuego”. It is rich in contrast in melodic texture, rhythm, and the composer uses all orchestral colors to paint a musical impression of this fascinating landscape with its “Mountains of Fire”.
