Angels, candles and of course church bells - inevitably the cozy feeling of Christmas anticipation rises in each of us. Martin Scharnagl based on the sweet melody of the German Christmas carol “Suesser die Glocken nie klingen” a beautiful little but fine easier graded fantasy for wind band.

In “Little Sweet Bells” he combines a convincing-sounding sentence structure with pedagogical aspects, along with interesting harmonic nuances as well as a diversified sound structure. Soft and fluent, the topics and motifs in the verse and chorus parts intermesh, are picked up in interludes and passages and intensify towards the end in a density of sound. According to his main instrument Martin Scharnagl spices the score with four possible voices for the drums section. In addition to timpani and a mallets, which also uses tubular bells and triangle, windchimes and cymbals, together with small and large drums, provide for different rhythmic characters, but also for echoes of bells of different sizes.

In this sense: Let the bells ring, because when do they sweeter than at Christmas time?
